"Neither identical to, nor different from the old theatre, but rather a state-of-the-art continuum."
Crowned by Apollo, the Greek eminence of arts, music and poetry, the revitalized Howard Theatre will reveal its original regal façade, combining elements of Beaux Arts, Italian Renaissance and neoclassical design.
The interior combines flexible main-floor arrangements – 650-700 seated or 900 - 1,000 standing - with balcony seating to support a wide variety of events. The new configuration, with its state-of-the-art acoustics, video and recording capabilities, will allow The Howard to retain the intimate feel of its former 1,200-seat space, while appealing to both traditional and digital-age audiences. A deeper stage, basement and additional wing space provides for enhanced set preparation, gourmet kitchen and administrative office space.
As part of the new addition, a 600-square-foot museum and gift shop will showcase memorabilia, photos and videos of the astounding array of artists and guests who graced The Howard in years past.
As part of its commitment to the neighborhood, Howard Theatre Restoration, Inc. and the City will ensure that the theatre is open six days a week, year-round, with dining amenities and opportunities for a variety of uses.
Inside and out, the new Howard Theatre will honor the glory of the past while ushering in an exciting future with new breath and energy. The rich legacy and the musical soul of The Howard will live on through the talents and performances of the hottest rising stars and superstars in the entertainment industry.
